Ambiente Friendly odds slashed after dominating Derby trial
Ambiente Friendly utterly dominated in the William Hill Derby Trial at Lingfield in his last outing and the bookmakers have reacted by decisively slashing his odds in the 2024 Epsom Derby.
Previously unconsidered
Ambiente Friendly had been previously unconsidered in the build-up to the 2024 Epsom Derby but at Lingfield he had rider Callum Shepherd looking back for potential dangers which simply weren’t there on the run-in and he quickened away from firm favourite Illinois to win by four-and-a-half lengths. Unsurprisingly the bookmakers reacted swiftly to this and slashed the odds on the three-year-old from a pre-contest high of 100/1 to a current price of 13/2. Shepherd, who has never before ridden in the Epsom Derby, now finds himself with one of the leading contenders and second favourite ahead of the big event on Saturday, 1st June.
Handled it beautifully
He said: “I couldn’t have expected to be looking around in a Derby trial if I was in a winning position. That was just exceptional – he split the field so comfortably. The ground was much quicker, which he was unproven on, but he handled it beautifully. I can’t speak highly enough of him.”

The 2024 renewal of the Epsom Derby is looking extremely open with City Of Troy currently heading the market at best odds of 2/1 (as of Monday, 20th May 2024), trained by Aiden O’Brien who also has leading Oaks contender Ylang Ylang.
